Nia Reid-Allen Myrtle&Flossie

Ever since childhood I knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur in the fashion industry. After graduating from the University of Michigan, I took one step closer to my dream by becoming a professional model in New York City. After living in New York for fifteen years, I met my husband and we purchased a home in Jersey City. I immediately noticed the high number of pregnant women and moms. It seemed as if 8 out of every 10 women we passed on the streets were either expecting or had 2 or 3 little ones in tow.

Shortly after moving, I gave birth to my baby girl and I realized that the real challenge was not before or during, but after pregnancy. While there are plenty of resources available for expecting mothers, I yearned for a solution that addressed the challenges and issues women face after the birth of a child. I used my background in the fashion industry, and tapped into my personal experience and lessons learned as a new mother, and Myrtle and Flossie was born.

RTC was instrumental in helping to flush out my business idea and pinpoint what my business is and who it serves. Through the CBA, I learned business fundamentals and how to grow and sustain my brand. It was not only affordable, but the wealth of knowledge I received was priceless. I participated in an array of Business Accelerated Services offered to graduates, including workshops, seminars and coaching which helped me figure out my next step. RTC also endorsed me for my first loan of $8,000 through Kiva Zip!

I feel great about my accomplishments so far. I created an online store, gained brand recognition in the downtown Jersey City area and I’ve been featured in popular blogs as well as the magazine Baby Talk. I was even able to get help in rebranding and expanding my business to serve women of all walks of life, thanks to one of the help desk providers. None of these would even be possible if it weren’t for the help of Rising Tide Capital.
