Moms’ Choice LLC Celebrates Grand Opening in Jersey City
JERSEY CITY—Moms’ Choice LLC, a company which matches clients with local caregivers, officially launched in Jersey City during a ceremony at the Mary McLeod Bethune Life Center on May 15.
The company was founded by Bhaier Ramsingh-Lance who moved from Trinidad to the United States twelve years ago. When she arrived, she first worked as a babysitter but eventually took a job in the corporate sector. During that time, she discovered a need for a service that could match customers with the perfect care-giver.
“The typical American family now requires dual income to meet the expenses of daily life. That’s why for most working families, getting quality care in the comfort of their home is no longer an option, but an absolute necessity,” said Ramsingh-Lance.
She registered Mom’s Choice LLC in 2006, but afraid to leave a salaried job, she put the idea aside.
When the economy took a turn for the worse and she was laid off, she decided to pursue her business idea full-time. In 2010, she enrolled in the Community Business Academy, an 11-week business course provided by the Jersey City-based nonprofit, Rising Tide Capital. That same year, she opened an office.
“Moms’ Choice provides more than just a virtual presence,” said Ramsingh-Lance who has an office at 35 Journal Square opposite the Journal Square Train Center.
On May 15, Ramsingh-Lance celebrated the grand opening of her business along with members of the community and local leaders who praised the opening of a minority, female-owned business.
Senator Sandra D. Cunningham and Dr. Frances O. Thompson, the director for the Hudson County Office of Minority and Women Business Enterprises presented along with Jersey City Deputy Mayor Kabili Tayari and Rising Tide Capital Managing Director of Programs Jay Savulich.
